When the Portuguese arrived, the Brazilian Indians resisted and tried to gain power back, but they failed. The colonists tried to enslave local indians but they figured it would not work out. Mainly because they were very rebellious, they were killed easily when exposed to Western diseases, and they could escape easily because they knew the land very well. When the remaining local Indians tried to fight back and gain power back most of them was killed. Once Portugal gained full power over Brazil, they used many of its resources. The Portuguese used cotton, tobacco, and cattle hides which brought great wealth to Portugal. Also the portuguese completely changed Brazil’s government system around. They changed it from not having a government to a having a directly ruled colony. Also the Portuguese made a huge change in Brazil when they colonized because most people living in Brazil today are descended from the Portuguese.
